Therapist Dog campA two day pet therapy masterclass for anyone already involved or for those interested in becoming involved in delivering animal based programs whether you're a Health Professional, Educator or Pet Therapy Handler.
If you hold the belief that incorporating an animal based program into your practise will help achieve better health outcomes and greater client satisfaction then we at Dog Camp Australia believe the learning is endless. Whether this be in regards to the clinical skills of your profession, animal behaviour or the art of combining the two disciplines together.
At Dog Camp Australia we are always reflecting and learning from our own experiences and want to share this with you to increase the scope, standard and professionalism of this growing field. What does 'play' have to do with training my dog? Dog behaviour and human behaviour have some major differences. Learning how to objectively assess what your dog is thinking and/or feeling is crucial for animal based programs. As a handler one needs to be able to know what they are communicating, what their specific needs are (beyond food and shelter) and what it takes to live and work together. By hearing a series of lectures, attending 'games training' with your own dog, receiving various resources, workshop attendees come to understand much more about his or her dog, their role in the professional setting, and therefore, is able to recognise and solve problems, mitigate risk in various healthcare settings, anticipate and overcome future obstacles and to enhance their dog's training in an effective and humane manner using purely positive reward based training methods. Our camps enable individuals to take the time to understand and embrace the power and wonder that happens between animals and people and grasp a complete understanding of the role and place dogs can play in human service delivery where the welfare of the animals involved and the safety of the client/s is of paramount importance. |
